Architecturally correct
A Tudor does not want the roof a Craftsman wants. We match profile, color and shadow line to the house, and where a historic district or an architectural review board has a rule, we build inside it instead of arguing with it.

Vienna housing stock is older than it looks from the street. Under many of these Colonials and mid century homes is a deck, a ventilation setup and a flashing detail that were acceptable in 1968 and are not acceptable now.
Most Vienna work we take on is a full replacement on a Colonial or a split level where the roof has been layered, patched or vented with whatever the last contractor had on the truck that week.
The architecture here rewards restraint. A Colonial wants a clean field and crisp rakes, and half round copper gutters across the front elevation do more for the house than any upgrade you can put on the shingle itself. With mature oaks overhead, the valleys and the gutter system end up mattering as much as the field does.

Some Vienna slate is original and still repairable. Slate gets quoted individually, and the honest answer is often selective repair rather than replacement. We show you the photos of each slope and let you make the call.
Copper valleys, copper step flashing and half round copper gutters with soldered seams are the difference between a good roof and a roof that only looks new. We keep the metals consistent across the entire assembly.
Two homes on the same street can need very different work. These four points do not change from job to job.
Four questions. You get a straight read on whether this is a repair, a replacement, a gutter job or an insurance claim, and where to go next.

Usually. Matching depends on the quarry and the size and thickness of the existing tile, and salvaged slate is often the better match. We will tell you honestly whether a repair blends or whether you are looking at replacing a full slope for it to read correctly from the street.
Because it sounds good. The DMV is a transient market, so a fifty year product on an owner who moves in seven years is a marketing statement more than a benefit. We would rather talk about the weight of the shingle, the flashing and the ventilation, because that is what fails first.
No. Three tab is a dying product, prone to wind blow off, dated in appearance, and generally sold as a 20 to 25 year roof. We do not install it or promote it. If a contractor is still pushing three tab on a Vienna Colonial, treat that as a flag.
On most of them, yes, and they read as original rather than as an upgrade. We size the system to the Virginia design rainfall of 6.5 inches per hour, solder the seams and match the flashing metal to the gutter metal so nothing corrodes at the connection.
We get on the roof, not just in the driveway. We check the field, valleys, chimney and wall flashing, pipe collars, ridge and the attic side where we can, then photograph everything to CompanyCam and hand you a written estimate. Free, and you owe nothing after it.
Every town we cover has its own page with local detail. Pick yours.
