Overview
A hail inspection is a physical inspection. You cannot see a bruise from the ground, from a drone photo, or from a phone camera, and anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing at your expense.
We chalk test squares on each slope and count strikes, then check the soft metals that hail marks first. Gutters, downspouts, vent caps, flashing, and the condenser cabinet all take visible dents, and those dents are what tell an adjuster the storm was real. Then we look at the shingle for granule loss and for the soft, bruised spot where the mat fractured under the hit.
Granule loss
Granules are the shingle's sunscreen. Once hail knocks them loose the asphalt underneath cooks, dries out, and cracks. Check the bottom of your downspouts after any real storm.
Soft metal collateral
Gutters, drip edge, vent caps, and condenser fins take dents you can actually photograph. We shoot those first because they date the storm and support everything else in the claim.

What a real hail inspection looks like
Twenty minutes on a ladder and a handshake is not an inspection. We get on the roof, on every slope, and we mark test squares and count strikes so the number in the report is a number, not a feeling.

How do I know if I have hail damage?
You usually do not, and that is the point. Start with the obvious things. Dents in the gutters, granules piled at the downspout, dings on the vent caps or the AC unit. Any of that means the roof got hit too. Confirming the shingle damage takes a trained set of eyes actually on the roof.
Will insurance pay for a hail roof?
Frequently. Hail is a covered peril on most policies, and Virginia carriers pay claims that are properly documented. What sinks a claim is a thin inspection with three blurry photos. We do the test squares, the collateral, and a written report, and we can meet your adjuster on the roof.
How long do I have to file a claim?
Check your policy, because most carriers set a deadline measured from the date of loss and some are as short as a year. Get the roof inspected soon after a storm even if you are not filing yet. A dated photo file is worth a great deal when the argument happens later.
Will new shingles match the old ones?
On a partial repair, not exactly. Color lots shift and sun fades whatever is already up there. We show you the closest match ABC Supply has and let you decide. If your shingle line is discontinued we tell you before we start the work, not after we finish it.
Do you discount the job if insurance is paying?
No. We do not discount insurance claims restoration work. The scope is priced the same whether you write the check or your carrier does. Anyone offering to eat your deductible or knock money off to win the job is telling you what they will do on your roof.
