Find the water source
We trace where the water actually got in, whether that is a gutter with no drip edge behind it, a plugged downspout, or a valley dumping over the trough. The rotted wood is only the symptom.

Fascia is the board your gutters hang on. Soffit is the vented underside that feeds air into your attic, and when either one goes soft you get sagging gutters, wet sheathing and animals in the eave.
Almost every rotted fascia board we pull off was killed by water coming over the back of a gutter, so replacing the wood without fixing the gutter only buys you a few years.
Related roofline work: fascia board replacement, rake board replacement and PVC trim installation.
The eave is where the roof, the gutter and the attic all meet, and it is the piece most contractors treat as trim. Soffit is intake ventilation. Block it with insulation or swap it for solid panel and the attic stops breathing, which shows up later as a hot upstairs in July and ice at the eave in January. We look at all three together.

Intake at the eave has to feed the ridge or the attic short circuits. We keep the vent area open with baffles so insulation cannot slide down the rafter bay and choke it.
Painted wood, cellular PVC and aluminum all have a place. PVC will not rot and takes paint, aluminum wraps fast and cheap, and we tell you which one is the right call for your eave.
Fascia and soffit work means the gutter comes down, and that is the only time anyone gets a clear look at the roof edge. We use the opportunity rather than rushing past it.
Four questions. You get a straight read on whether this is a repair, a replacement, a gutter job or an insurance claim, and where to go next.

Water sitting where it should be running. Overflowing gutters, a downspout draining behind the trough, no drip edge at the roof edge, or a valley that concentrates flow onto one spot. Paint failure lets it in faster, but the water always has a source and we find it before replacing wood.
Only if the wood is sound. Wrapping soft fascia traps moisture against it, and hangers will not hold in punky wood, so the gutter starts pulling away again within a couple of seasons. We probe first and give you the honest answer, including which boards have to come out.
Squirrels and birds get in through a gap at a rotted corner, a lifted panel, or the open end of a vented panel that was never closed off. We replace the damaged material and seal the entry points, though a heavy infestation needs a wildlife company to clear it first.
Yes. Soffit vents are the intake side of attic ventilation and the ridge vent is the exhaust. Choke the intake and the exhaust pulls air out of the house instead, which raises cooling costs, cooks shingles from below and feeds ice dams in winter. It is the most ignored part of a roof.
We prime and paint wood fascia, or we wrap it in color matched aluminum, whichever you choose. PVC comes ready to go and takes paint if you want a custom color. We tell you the maintenance that comes with each one so nothing surprises you in five years.

When a gutter backs up, water spills over the back edge and sits against the fascia, soffit and trim until the wood goes soft. New boards last when the gutter in front of them stays clear. Every cleaning visit includes a look at the roof edge, with photos.
Book a free inspection and we will show you photos of the rafter tails and the roof edge, not just the one board you can already see from the driveway.
Tell us what you are seeing and we will get back to you to set a time.
