Natural slate
Genuine quarried stone. A century or more of service life on the right structure.

Natural slate is the longest lived roof there is, and composite slate gets close to the look at a fraction of the weight and cost.
A properly installed natural slate roof can outlast the building beneath it. It is also heavy, expensive, and demands a structure that can carry it and a crew that knows how to work it.
Composite slate has become the practical answer for most homes that want the look. It is lighter, cheaper, easier to repair, and from the ground very few people can tell the difference.

Slate roofs usually need individual tiles replaced rather than whole sections. We do that work as well.
The choice is usually settled by the framing rather than by taste. We check what the roof can carry before we quote you anything.

It depends on the framing. Slate is several times heavier than asphalt. We assess the structure first, and if it will not carry the load then composite is the sensible route.
From the ground, to almost everyone, yes. Up close a trained eye can tell. The trade off is weight, cost and ease of future repair, all of which favor composite on most homes.
Yes. Most slate work is repair rather than replacement, since the field usually outlasts everything around it.

Clogged gutters back water up under the first course of shingles, rot the fascia and feed ice dams. Keep them clean on a schedule and the roof edge stays dry. Ask about adding the Annual Gutter Cleaning Plan to your roof project.
