Stop the water first
Tarp and dry in before anything else. A tarp is not a repair and we will not pretend it is, but it buys the days you need to do the real work correctly and in daylight.

Water is already inside, so the first job is stopping it. Emergency calls go to the front of the line so we can tarp, dry in, and shut down an active leak before it reaches drywall, insulation, and the floor below.
A leak does not get worse at a steady rate, it gets worse fast. Every hour of water in an attic is insulation you will replace and framing somebody has to dry out.
The call gets answered and someone gets dispatched. We tarp the failure and dry in the exposed area so the interior stops taking on water, then we inspect the whole roof in daylight so the permanent repair fixes the cause and not just the hole. Everything is documented from the first tarp forward, which matters when an adjuster shows up two weeks later.

The wet ceiling is almost never under the failure. Water travels along rafters and sheathing before it drops, so we trace it back to the flashing, valley, or penetration that actually let it in.
Photos and video of the damage before we touch it, during the tarp, and after the repair. Adjusters always ask what it looked like before, and we can show them exactly.
Emergency work is triage. Here is the order we work in and why it goes that way, because on a roof at midnight the sequence is what protects your house.
Four questions. You get a straight read on whether this is a repair, a replacement, a gutter job or an insurance claim, and where to go next.

Call the office line and tell us water is coming in. Active leaks, storm damage, and a limb through the roof are the calls that go to the front of the line, because the sooner a tarp goes on, the less the ceiling costs you.
Move what you can out from under the drip and put a bucket down. If the ceiling is bulging with trapped water, poke a small hole at the low point so it drains into the bucket instead of letting the whole sheet let go at once.
No. Emergency response and tarping is billed work, because it is labor, material, and a crew driving out to your house at an odd hour with no notice. The inspection that follows and the written estimate for the permanent repair are both free and carry no obligation.
Sudden storm damage usually is. Wear and age usually is not. We document the condition thoroughly and work with your adjuster, but we will not tell you what your policy says, and we do not discount insurance claims restoration work.
Once material is confirmed, most asphalt repairs and even full roof replacements run one day from tear off through clean up. Specialty work like standing seam metal, EPDM, TPO, or slate takes longer, because the material and the detailing both take longer to do correctly.

Clogged gutters back water up under the first course of shingles, rot the fascia and feed ice dams. Keep them clean on a schedule and the roof edge stays dry. Ask about adding the Annual Gutter Cleaning Plan to your roof project.
