Look under the wrap
Aluminum covered fascia hides rot. We open it where the gutter has been overflowing and photograph what is underneath.

Rotted fascia boards replaced, drip edge installed and gutters rehung on Springfield homes, from North Springfield to West Springfield. Served from our headquarters on Alban Station Blvd.
A lot of Springfield was built in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, and many of those colonials, ramblers and split levels still carry their original wood fascia, often wrapped in aluminum decades ago. Wrapping looks fine from the street, but when a gutter overflows behind it, the water is trapped against the wood and the board rots from the inside, where nobody sees it until the gutter starts to sag.
Under the mature trees in neighborhoods like Kings Park, North Springfield and West Springfield, clogged gutters are the usual culprit. We take the gutter down, open the wrapping, replace whatever is soft, install drip edge and put the gutter back properly, with photos of every step.

Usually because a gutter has been overflowing behind it, often under heavy tree cover, or because the roof edge never had drip edge. On wrapped fascia, the water gets trapped behind the aluminum and rots the board where you cannot see it.
Yes, and it is common on older Springfield homes. The wrap keeps the wood from drying out once water gets behind it. A sagging gutter or a soft spot when you press on the wrap are the giveaways, and we open it up to check.
Yes, if the gutters are in good shape. We take them down carefully and rehang them on new hidden hangers. If they are old or sectional, we will tell you whether replacing them now saves you money later.
